Bright yellow foliage with a orange blush to the edges. Much brighter than 'Katsura'. Ueno yama leafs after 'Katsura' and the color last longer than 'Katsura'. Red stems and petioles are a nice contrast with the bright glowing leaves. Summer foliage is a light green. Bright orange/yellow fall color. This tree needs morning sun and afternoon shade. It will scorch in full sun. It is said that 'Ueno Yama' is the same as 'Ueno Homare'. Through my observations the leaves are the same but the form is different. 'Ueno Yama' is more of a vase shaped, upright tree and 'Ueno Homare' is more vigorous forming a rounded. upright bush similar to 'Katsura'. 'Ueno Homare' will reach 16 ft and 'Ueno Yama' grows slightly smaller 12 ft. I know my observations are very small but I try to find the differences since the names are not the same. It is also stated that it is a Zone 6. I have my 'Ueno Yama' planted in zone 5 it is protected from the southwest winter winds in well-drained soil.
