Deeply divided large dark,maroon-purple leaves emerge in the spring and hold color midway through the summer. In the heat of the summer months, the leaves have a green undertone to them or they may turn completely dark forest green. Spectacular vivid crimson fall color. Rather large tree at 25-30 ft at maturity, will have a rounded canopy and branches will cascade. Very pretty maple and excellent specimen. Very old Japanese cultivar. The name means "The thunderer". Best color in full sun in part shade, there will be more green undertones. Well-drained soil. Zone 5 Very strong maple.
