HAROLD'S SEEDLING #2 (crumple type)

This is a seedling that Harold Johnston of AL gave to me in 2002. He told me to watch it for him since he feels it will be something special. It seems to be a cross with Crumple Leaf/Crinkle Leaf, Rugose. The leaf comes out with a pinkish hue in the spring As the summer approaches, the leaf turns brown with a slight reddish tint. Leaves are of a heavy substance with puckering, kind of rough like sandpaper. Prominent gold veins are shown on some leaves. Very sturdy, stiff branching. Upright with a narrow form canopy. In 10 yrs it has grown 5 ft high and 2 ft wide. Fall color is yellow, orange and red. Sun/part shade in well-drained soil. Part shade will keep the spring color a little longer.
