Unusual color in a Japanese Maple. Spring color is reddish-orange with gold veins. As the spring moves on, the large palmate leaves will turn flat purple-brown with irregular small green spots appearing on the leaves. It isn't as noticeable far away as it is close up. When the heat of the summer approaches, the color is a burnt orange-purple with gold-green veins. This large tree will become 26 ft at maturity and have a stiff upright, rounded look. Very old Japanese cultivar dating to 1882. Yellow, red and orange fall color. Sun to part shade in well-drained soil. Zone 5
